If….& …Then……

On May 15th  2013 I posted a blog post entitled An exceedingly good poet.

Today is August 16th 2013, it has taken me since then if not longer to add an addition to the famous poet Rudyard Kipling’s  words in his poem If ,  that would fit but also ring true to the rest of the poem to illicit the faithfulness, loyalty staminer and honour  of the content of the poem, yet make it apply in this century, as we can sometimes lose sight of these qualities. I have spent the last 32 years trying to instill these values into my charges, one day, as most days, it will ring true!

Pay special attention to the end of the poem if you are already familiar with it, I feel it will answer Bastet’s querie of May 15th.

And I dedicate this poem to all our Grandchildren, and hope they come, as we have, to live by it.

IF…..

IF you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream – and not make dreams your master;
If you can think – and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
‘ Or walk with Kings – nor lose the common touch,
if neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And – which is more – you’ll be a Man, my son!

-And then again, if you’re a woman,

Then you’re day is not yet done!

(For all my girls!, & all of my grandchildren of whatever gender & Bastet )

LETTING GO

When I am not playing with words this is a part of what I do, please take a look and make some suggestions to improve this as an online community support group.

“If you love somebody, let them go, for if they return, they were always yours. And if they don’t, they never were.”
— Kahlil Gibran

This quotation from the famous poet and philosopher has always been a part of my life, I have often quoted it to my children when discussing matters of the heart, and difficult relationships in particular.

Some relationships are worth ‘fighting for’ and some are just not, it’s that simple it really is, when you remove all the emotion and drama, that is the philosophy that we all come back to and settle upon.

It is a lot easier to write and quote Kahlil Gibran, than it is to live by it when you’re in the midst of a court case or as I have dramatically put it myself in the past “battling to maintain a relationship with my granddaughter”.

As a Grandmother  it is extremely hard…

Grandparent Support

Hello everyone!

At long last I have tweeked and turned my tumblr blog and brought it over to WORDPRESS they make it  so easy, but as a lady of a  certain age the finer points sometimes escape me!

I have moved over in the hope that more people will get to  see what we are  up to!

The aim is to get as many people as possible talking about the issues that face Grandparents today!

In particular there are Grandparents out there that face the heartbreaking issue of NO CONTACT. Read my past posts to get a flavour!

There are also Grandparents out there that have already raised a family and are now inexhaustibly set to raise their Grandkids too, for whatever reason!

I want to hear from all of you, and I want to help too! posting stories, experiences and links to useful information,  and support in your local area.

A day at the Beach. A ‘Storetry’ Collaboration with my Word Press community. Stuff It Tuesdays with the Mrs. Join in!

BIRTHDAY AND CRICK MAY2009 018

DILLON

MY WORDS TODAY ARE BLOWN AWAY, BY THIS LADYS’ PROJECT WHAT ELSE CAN I SAY?

Writings of a Mrs

Welcome to our first Stuff it Tuesday Collaboration!  It was fun to see all of the writing and poems that people came up with and even more fun trying to make it into a fluid ‘storetry’.  Quite the challenge.  I had all of the entries laid out on my floor last night along with a glass of wine.  There are so many talented people in our Word Press community.

I decided to add each persons blog link underneath their entry.  This seemed to be the best way to keep track of each entry, so as you read, read past the links and then you can go back and check out people’s blogs when you have finished the ‘storetry’.  I want to give a shout out to Valerie.  She missed the deadline but also submitted this image so I included.  I apologize for having to refuse some submissions.   I had…
